What a system really changes
A system does not change the expected value: it redistributes outcomes. You trade rare big wins for smaller, more frequent ones — at the cost of a much larger total stake.
And above all: the bookmaker's margin applies to every combination in the system. A 2/4 system on legs at 5% margin therefore carries roughly 10% margin on each of its six tickets. If the selections are not individually positive-expectation, the system merely speeds up the loss.
